‘Shibui’ is a Japanese aesthetic concept that has been described as ‘the essence of Japanese culture and the ultimate in taste’.
Shibui objects are timeless, elegant and understated, combining quality, beauty and sophistication. Lines are subtle and refined, form is unostentatious, superfluous decoration is unnecessary.
Decorative items catch your eye, and your attention and make you feel good. Practical items should do the same but should not do it at the expense of utility.
There is no reason why they can’t be beautiful, as well as practical and well designed.
